Franchise Buyer's Guide — Practical questions, research steps and insights for evaluating franchise opportunities

Brands are not shown publicly. Before Brian can present franchise opportunities, candidates must complete three steps: sign the NDA, complete the Franchise Fit Assessment, and submit funding pre-qualification. This protects you from being shown brands that don't fit your financial profile.

The Process

9 steps to buying a franchise

01

Self-Assessment

Before evaluating any franchise, evaluate yourself. What are your skills, goals, lifestyle preferences, and investment capacity? A franchise that works for someone else may not work for you.

02

Research Industries & Models

Franchises span hundreds of industries — home services, healthcare, food, fitness, education, B2B, and more. Identify the sectors that align with your background and interests.

03

Work With a Franchise Consultant

An independent franchise consultant (like Brian) can match you with opportunities that fit your profile, help you avoid poor fits, and guide you through the process at no cost to you.

04

Request the FDD

The Franchise Disclosure Document is a legally required document that reveals everything about the franchise — financials, litigation history, franchisee turnover, and more. Read it carefully.

05

Validate With Existing Franchisees

Talk to current and former franchisees. Ask about support, training, profitability, and what they would do differently. This is the most valuable research you can do.

06

Secure Financing

Understand your funding options: SBA loans, ROBS (Rollover for Business Startups), portfolio loans, and franchisor financing programs. Get pre-qualified before you commit.

07

Hire a Franchise Attorney

Never sign a franchise agreement without independent legal review. A franchise attorney will identify unfavorable terms, negotiate on your behalf, and protect your interests.

08

Attend Discovery Day

Most franchisors invite serious candidates to visit headquarters. This is your chance to meet the team, see the operation, and make a final assessment before signing.

09

Sign & Launch

Once you've completed due diligence and are confident in your decision, sign the agreement, secure your territory, and begin the onboarding process.
